You may have been dreaming of taking a trip to Europe but thought that it was going to be too expensive. Well, right now is probably the best time in the last 5 years to go.
Why, you might ask? Well you can thank the sexy sounding Currency Exchange Rate for that. Right now the U.S dollar is worth about $0 .89/ euro. And while that's not as strong as say India where there's a $1.00/62.08 conversion, it's still the highest it's been in ages. Just a couple of years ago, the rate was more like $0.65/euro. That's HUGE in saving you money! The world is officially your oyster! Here are a few ideas to get your travel juices flowing:

How many posts have you seen about 20 trips to take in your 20's, or 100 places to see before you die? A lot, right? I know these posts are meant to be motivating, but is it really reasonable for most people to take 20 separate international trips in their 20's? It can be done, yes. But most people in their 20's are going to school or starting their first jobs that have 5 days of vacation time. While there are lots of ways to make money stretch and you can take advantage of long weekends, most of us aren't going to be able to take 4 weeks of vacation to jet set in our 20's. Sorry, I'm mostly ranting at myself. I was going to do a post about 30 travel tips for your 30's, but then I decided that was stupid. I hate the posts that basically tell you that if you haven't visited these places/read these books/tried these foods by the time you're (insert age) then you are behind in life and not living up to your potential. Listen to Taylor, and do what you want! You want to forgo buying a big house and slum it so you can travel all the time? Do it! You want to eat cake for breakfast? Do it! You want to quit your job and pursue your passion for (insert awesome thing you love)? Do it! Stop living up to other people's expectations for what makes an awesome and complete life. I don't know how many times people have commented about how crazy/expensive/not realistic it is to make traveling a priority or to have spent a year abroad, or simply moving to Oregon. But that's what I wanted to do so...yeah I did it. It doesn't make me special, plenty of people are doing their own thing; starting businesses, dedicating their lives to others, and generally being awesome. That's the whole reason you wanted to grow up as a kid right? To do what you want! It can be scary, but remember... So for the rest of you that are just checking things off because you think that's what you're supposed to do...start doing what you want. It's fun, trust me! Start living your life exactly the way YOU want. And be like Alan, and travel happy!
Skeeter So, let me start by saying that more than likely you've been lied to about the weather on the Oregon coast...I know I was. I was told how rainy, gloomy, and depressing it is. Total lies! Yes, it rains, but you know what? We've had more than a few 68 degree and sunny days this winter. In fact I think most of January has been sunny. It's awesome! Pat is pretty much at the beach all the time. And when we do have storms, you get awesome shows like the one above! I'm partial to the southern Oregon Coast as that's where I spend most of my time. On any particular day in December/January you can: -Go surfing, yes surfing! Check out Waxers Surf Shop in Coos Bay for lessons and rentals. -Catch fresh crabs -Walk for hours on pristine beaches without seeing another soul -Hike through giant old growth forests filled with color even in the middle of winter -Hang out with sea lions and seals -Whale watch -Storm watch...you have to do this once in your life. Shore Acres Park is THE place to watch monster waves crashing to shore -Have the best seafood ever! -Visit beautiful lighthouses Now that you're thinking "Maybe I should check out the coast" Let me tell you about the deals! Since it's the off season, hotels are going for as low as $49 a night! Yeah, it's crazy. Pat literally got sun burnt the other day...how is this the off season?! I'm convinced that people have been lying about the weather here to keep people away. That's the only explanation. I do have to say that January has been nicer than December. There were a few more rainy days in December. On a trip in the winter you are likely to hit some rain, but it's also not going to be too cold, and you're going to get an awesome show of breaking waves. Not to mention there's awesome clam chowder and locally brewed beer to help get you through the rainy days. Check out 7 Devils Brewery for great beer, food, and live shows. The southern Oregon coast is a great bet for an affordable, fun filled vacation in the winter. You're not going to have to stand in a single line or fight through a single crowd. You'll have miles of beach to yourself and you'll be able to escape those sub zero temperatures that most of the rest of the country is suffering through and you wont have to spend a fortune to do it.
If you're not convinced follow us Happy Travelers on Instagram. I'm usually posting pictures of the coast on a regular basis. If you are convinced, check out Oregon's Adventure Coast for more ideas for an awesome trip or leave your questions in the comments! Happy Travels, Skeeter |
