Happy Friday!! I hope you all have some fun planned this weekend! Today, I wanted to mix things up a bit with the Friday Travel Deal Alert. Both of these deals will be coming from Virgin America Airlines. I've been wanting to fly with them since the launched in the U.S. They are reinventing the flying experience with all the things you need to stay connected, be entertained, and comfortable on your trip.Check them out to see a full list of amenities. So, without further ado, on to the deals! San Francisco! You can fly from Austin to San Francisco on October 11th and return on the 21st for $321 or you can fly from Chicago to San Francisco on October 9th and return on the 21st for $302 which are both pretty good deals. Some of the cool things you'll find in flight include that you can order food and beverages direct from your in seat screen. No need to hail a flight attendant or wait for it to be the designated dinner time. Each seat, even in coach is equipped with outlets for charging your devices and you can electronically chat seat to seat. So if you're flying with someone but couldn't book seats together you can still chat and stay connected. You can also use this to flirt with the cute girl you met at the ticket counter...the world's your oyster! Virgin American has also received tons of reviews for their amazing customer service, which is sometimes non-existent in the world of flying. Sometimes you can still get a great deal, but not feel as though you're being hauld around like cattle and instead feel more like a celebrity.
I feel a trip coming on and, I'm pretty sure I'll need to fly with Virgin America! Have any of you flown with them? On a scale of one to amazing, how much of a ten were they? Leave your reviews in the comments. Have a great weekend and happy travels! Skeeter

For those of you who follow us on Facebook, you may have been on the receiving end of some of my "The weather on the Oregon coast is magical" which it is. It's been sunny and 70 basically the whole time I've been here. That was until yesterday...when I had to eat my words.
I was driving home on a dark and stormy night (this is what I call setting the mood). In all seriousness though, I didn't even realize by windshield wipers had that high of a setting until I cranked it to full blast. Anywho, I'm driving along, trying not to die, when I kept seeing all this debris on the road. I figured it was leaves and what not, until they started MOVING and HOPPING. Que freak out... I white knuckled it the rest of the way half laughing at the absurdity and half whining at how scary it was. Now, I know that there are large frog appearances from time to time in wetter climates, but I just moved from the dessert and it was basically like it was raining frogs. I felt like it was the end of times. I didn't get a pic, because I was trying to not kill myself or all the frogs and it was raining buckets, so I just found this adorable frog above trying his best to stay dry. That's all I have for you today, I know it's random, but that's life, right? Happy hump day! Skeeter So, when I think of backpacking, I think of two things: 1) tromping through the forest camping and hiking and being one with nature 2) traveling from city to city staying in hostels, camping, etc. I've done both, and loved each experience.
Both are similar in that they cast aside traditional accommodations for something a bit more adventurous. If you've never tried backpacking, here are a few reasons why you should. 1. You get to see so much more! Staying in an all inclusive resort can be nice and luxurious, but it sanitizes your experience. An all inclusive in Mexico is going to feel a lot like an all inclusive in the Bahamas and in Hawaii, and in every single place in. the.world. Backpacking forces you to meet new people, try new things and experience more of the culture around you, which for me, is a big reason to travel. The picture at the top of this post is of Pat crossing a rope bridge in New Zealand on our way to see a glacier...which is something we probably wouldn't have made our way to see if we weren't backpacking. 2. You learn new skills. When you don't have a hotel desk clerk to sort out dinner or point you in the right direction, because oh yeah, your in the woods, you have to rely on yourself. This might seem a bit scary, but it's also such an important part of life. There's something so satisfying about being stuck in a difficult situation and then MacGyver-ing your way out of it. This might be as simple as using team work to get the stove to work in the communal kitchen at a hostel or catching your own fish. Or heating rocks to keep warm because someone (me) forgot their sleeping bag. Self reliance is sexy, give it a try. 3. You make new friends. When you stay in a hotel, you kind of have a bubble wrapped around you. You often only meet people in passing or people who are serving your meals, driving your cab, etc. Unless you're on a group tour, you don't really get a chance to meet and get to know other people while you're away. When you're backpacking, that's all different. You're sharing space (which isn't always pleasant, I'll be honest), but it's a chance to make friends all over the world. You get to hear interesting travel stories, and learn good tips for when you finally make it to Thailand. Some of the best people I've met, I've met while traveling. 4. You can travel longer. Backpacking is a very economical way to travel, which means you can afford to go on a longer trip, which is obviously awesome. Stock up some vacation time, and take that month long trip to Europe that you've been dying to do since college. 5. It's good for you. You'll be carrying your backpack all over the place, eating healthier food, and exercising your body and your mind. Whether you're breathing in the fresh mountain air, or cooking the fresh food you just picked up at a local market, you'll be feeling rejuvenated and one with your surroundings. It might seem like more work to backpack, and it can be, but it also forces you to slow your pace a little, which is good for the soul. Feel free to share some of your favorite backpacking stories in the comments below. If you've never been backpacking, seriously give it a try. It can be a blast! Have a great week, and happy travels! We are always looking for the next adventure and are loving life. We're just your average couple with two sassy dogs and a love for travel. We're sharing our travels and the tips we pick up along the way. LIZHello! I'm Liz. Blogging is very new to me, but I'm so excited to finally write as much as I talk! Archives
