See The World
Seek Adventure Travel Happy
So you want to travel the world huh? But you're not too keen on not having a job and rolling the dice on being able to afford those important things like shelter and food. Or maybe you just want to have enough to do the fun stuff you imagine you will while traveling. Well, here are 6 jobs that you can pursue to see the world and have a roof over your head. 1. A Foreign Service Officer This was basically my dream job growing up. I'm not going to lie, this is a bit of a difficult job to get. There are several rounds of tests and screenings, the first of which has an 80% fail rate..and many of those 80% are not taking it for the first time. So yeah, this isn't a shoe in, but it is a job that you will see a ton of the world. Assignments are usually 2 years at a post. Many FSOs work at embassies doing many different jobs. Foreign language skills help, particularly languages like Farsi, Arabic, and French. I actually took the FSO test a few years ago so if you want any, albeit limited insight, let me know in the comments. One pool that they use to recruit FSOs is from the... 2. Peace Corps This is also a dream job of mine and I'm still working on convincing Pat that we should do this when we retire. One really cool thing that recently changed is that you can pick your location now. Previously you couldn't. Depending on what location you pick, it might delay when you can start...I'm sure everyone wants to go to Fiji. If you're still paying off student loans this is a great way to get a big chunck of that forgiven. They pay isn't a lot, but you will get so much out of it. If being a public servant isn't really your thing then perhaps being a... 3. Scuba Instructor is. Being a certified scuba instructor means you can work all over the world. People travel everyone to scuba. Not only is this in demand in many parts of the world, but I doubt it ever gets dull! 4 and 5. Pilot/Flight Attendant These are both obvious careers for the travel minded. Not only could these jobs take you to far off destinations while you're on the clock, but many of them offer benefits that offer free flights for you and your friends/family. The hours can be a little crazy for sure though. Not only are there commercial pilots, but being a pilot will open a lot of doors for other types of travel. Helicopter tours of Hawaii anyone?! 6. Teaching I'm sure you all have heard of teaching English abroad, but there's also a huge demand in many parts of the world for general educators. Teachers are often on the lists of professions in most demand. This means it will be easier for you to get a visa for other countries to live and work.
There are lots of ways to make money and see the world. You don't have to live in poverty just to achieve your dream of seeing the world. You may have noticed that I didn't mention anything about blogging/working remotely/online jobs etc. While this does work for some, in reality the income is usually small and inconsistent. If it is what you want to do, there are a lot of resources for learning how, but make sure you do LOTS of research before you embark on a year long adventure hopping to earn enough from your Google Ads to pay the way. Either way, there are plenty of ways to travel without breaking the bank. It's all about finding what works best for you! Happy travels! Skeeter

As we move through life I think it's pretty common to doubt the choices we've made or wonder how we've ended up where we are. I think it's pretty easy to beat ourselves up because we're not where we wanted/thought we would be by this time in our lives.
These thoughts can lead us to think that we're lost and that we'll never find our way. The truth is that we ARE on our way. Not a single one of us knows where exactly we're going though. That's kind of reassuring right? Last year, I read 'Lean In' by Sheryl Sandberg. One of the most resonating parts of the book to me is when she talks about feeling like a fraud. "I still face situations that I fear are beyond my qualifications. I still have days when I feel like a fraud." Her feelings are not unique at all. Tina Fey, one of my favorite people, once confessed that she sometimes screams inside her head "I'm a fraud! They're on to me!" That was crazy for me to read. Both of these women are hugely successful, incredibly intelligent, and yet they feel the exact same way I do all the time. This realization doesn't diminish the impact of these thoughts though. These feelings can lead you to question why you even try, why you're on the path that you are, and that at any moment you're going to fail. All of these feelings can lead you to feeling lost, but I want to tell you that EVERYONE feels like this. The only real thing you can do is to put your head and your heat together and trust that you'll get where you are meant to be, even if you have no idea where that is. Always keep pushing forward and don't let yourself get discouraged. This has taken me a long time to come to terms with. I love to plan plan plan. While I am still a big proponent of plans; planning will only get you so far. Sometimes you have to take a leap and seize that big opportunity, or regroup after a set back. Trust in yourself and trust that the path you are on will take you exactly where you need to be...You're not lost, you're finding your way. Always remember to travel happy! Hi there! I'm Skeeter. I grew up moving a lot and that makes me a bit restless for travel and exploration. I started this blog with my husband Pat when we decided to backpack New Zealand for a year. We are always looking for the next adventure and are loving life. We're just your average couple with two sassy dogs and a love for travel. We're sharing our travels and the tips we pick up along the way. LIZHello! I'm Liz. Blogging is very new to me, but I'm so excited to finally write as much as I talk! Archives
