Seek Adventure Travel Happy
Christchurch has been devastated by yet another earthquake, and it is hard for me to believe that the beautiful city that we saw in the midst of rebuilding itself is once again in ruin, and that so many lives have been destroyed. It almost doesn't seem real this far away. Our original plans were for us to be on the South Island at this time, and it feels strange to have had two earthquakes of such magnitude on either side of out travels there. We will be keeping the city of Christchurch and all of New Zealand in our thoughts and hope that the missing are soon found safe.
On a more upbeat note, things are going well for us here. I have found another job, this one lasting more than a week, and it seems promising. Pat is of course doing well in school, and putting his new engineering knowledge to good use building bridges (made from spaghetti). We have also found an apartment that we are in the process of moving into. It took us a while, landlords just aren't that pet friendly these days, and we had to find a home for our beagle Stella. We are still house hunting, but the houses in our current price range are more shack then mansion and while we don't need a mansion, we don't need a shack either. That may come as some surprise seeings how we lived in a van for so long, but Stella can be quite demanding! The winter here has also caused us to slip into remission with the travel bug. Mediterranean cruise from Barcelona? Surf camp in Costa Rica? Cajun food in New Orleans? Pub crawl in Ireland? It's really hard to decide, and airline fees keep going up, which is certainly a bummer. But, we can't be stopped, and will be traveling somewhere new once a year. Our tentative travel date is October, to give us enough time to save and plan. So, if you have any great travel ideas, be sure to share! ~Skeeter & Pat
