Seek Adventure Travel Happy
This last week has been a busy one. We went to the bathtub races, which was fun. I'll be posting some pics and a video of that. I gave my notice at work this week, because we are going to be hitting the road soon to see the rest of New Zealand. Today Pat and I walked into town to go the library to do some research for the rest of our trip and we decided to treat ourselves to an ice cream cone. It was delicious and the messiest ice cream cone ever. I had it on my face, on my purse, on my jeans, and dripping all down my arm. It was worth all the mess! And along with the load of laundry I'll need to do now, Pat and I have a tentative plan to see the rest of the North Island and the South Island. I hope to be updating you soon on all the details. While we've been in Whitianga we've made some good friends, and they are going to be throwing us a going away party on November 5th. November 5th is also Guy Fawkes Night, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guy_Fawkes_Night is a link to read more about it. It should be a lot of fun! With the warmer weather we've also been able to do some swimming in the ocean, which we love, and Pat has been training for a 5K, and running along the beach is a great motivator. It's the beginning of summer here, and each day is nicer than the last, and I'm glad to say that after 6 months we are still loving every minute of it! Thanks for continuing to follow us on our journey ! Skeeter

Whitianga is getting nicer and nicer as summer gets closer and closer. This weeken is Labour Day here and we are hoping for nice weather to watch the bathtube races. But the longer we stay here the more we realize that we are ready to move on and see what else there is to see here in beautiful New Zealand. That is why we are making plans to hit the road. we are planning on packing up Delilah and heading south on December 1st. That gives us a little time experience summer here, save some money and to fix Delilah up a little. Pat's already been working on Delilah. The multi colored paint job was driving him a little crazy so he's been painting her and getting her all spruced up for us to do some more backpacking with her. We are also starting to get a little homesick. Not because New Zealand is lacking in anyway, but because no matter how nice a place is, it doesn't replace family. So we are planning our route and all the things we want to see and do while we still have this wonderful opportunity and starting to look for jobs and a new place to live stateside. It will take us a few more months to see everything and I know we'll have a great time doing it, but we're also looking forward to seeing all of our friends and family. We can't wait to share our experience with all of you, and to get caught up on everything we've missed while we've been away.
Right now New Zealand is participating in the Commonwealth Games. It's like a mini Olympics, the main difference is that the countires that participate were formally ruled by Britain. Like the Olympics they have traditional sorts of games like Track and Field, Swimming, and Gymnastics. What makes the Commonwealth Games unique is that they also have lawn bowling, Ping Pong, Netball (which is a women's sport that is like a cross between basketball and ultimate frisbee), Cricket, and of course Rugby. The games this year are being hosting in India and are very popular here. New Zealand is doing ok overall, but they are kicking butt and taking names at Rugby and Netball. The NZ Rugby team The All Blacks are one of the best, if not THE best rugby team in the world and NZ is very proud of them. Even if they were awful they would still be super proud. That is one thing that we have noticed here, Kiwis are super supportive of other Kiwis. For example the NZ soccer team The All Whites were knocked out of the World Cup in the first round. There are still commercials on tv saying how they dominated and are a force to be reckoned with. It is kind of nice how much solidarity there is here amongst the Kiwis.
Labour Day is coming up here next week, and Whitianga is hosting bathtub races here in they bay. I've heard that there are heeps of participants and that it shouldlbe sweet as. We are looking forward to checking it out! Hopefully we'll have some good pictures of the race to post. I hope everything is going well in the northern hemisphere. Thanks for reading! ~ |

Hi there! I'm Skeeter. I grew up moving a lot and that makes me a bit restless for travel and exploration. I started this blog with my husband Pat when we decided to backpack New Zealand for a year. We are always looking for the next adventure and are loving life. We're just your average couple with two sassy dogs and a love for travel. We're sharing our travels and the tips we pick up along the way. LIZHello! I'm Liz. Blogging is very new to me, but I'm so excited to finally write as much as I talk! Archives
