Best is a subjective term. So, last week when I posted "10 Best Travel Movies" you may have thought that I was out of my mind for leaving out (or including) certain movies. That's the great thing about movies, there's something for everyone. And even after posting it, I thought of a couple that I should have included at least in honorable mentions. So, here are a few more to add to your lineup! 1. In Bruges: 2008 This is a hit-man, dark comedy movie set in Bruges, Belgium. In it, the boss professes that "it's like a fairytale". Which it does seem to be, if you don't count the hit-men roaming about. It's an entertaining movie, that makes you want to visit some of those less traveled locations that still have an old world charm to them. 2. The Motorcycle Diaries:2004 This movie is based on a memoir of Che Guevara when he as a 23 year old medical student on his journey across South America. It's a story about how travel can transform you...and no, that doesn't' always lead to becoming a revolutionary, if only! But, it's a great journey and story about travel and life. 3. Romancing the Stone: 1984 This is a bit of a cooky romantic comedy from the 80's. It's about a romance novelist who writes about amazing adventures and love, but hasn't ever experience it herself. That is until her sister finds herself needing help in South America and she runs into Michael Douglas' character that that all changes. It has some cheezy moments, but it's a fun movie to watch. 4. Sideways: 2004 So, this movie is hilarious, and you should see it if you haven't. It's about two former college roommates who are going on a bachelor party road trip...and they each have vastly different ideas about how this trip is going to go. They travel through California wine country and generally find awkward trouble everywhere they go. It's also good for picking up on wine terminology and pretending to be a wine aficionado in your kitchen, which is what Pat and I do. 5. The Talented Mr. Ripley: 1999 This all-star cast film set in 1950's Italy is not only great for making you wish you were in Italy this very second, but it's also a really good movie. Matt Damon's character is complicated and this film surprised me in a lot of ways. 6. Lost in Translation: 2003 This is a great move starring Scarlett Johansson, and the always good Bill Murray. They both find themselves traveling alone in Japan and make unlikely friends. It hits on a lot of the difficult parts of traveling alone in a foreign place. There's a scene where Scarlett Johansson is in a grocery store and can't tell what any of the food is and pulls open a container to smell it first...that's the sort of thing that catches you off guard and makes traveling both scary and exciting.
Well, with that, you should have plenty of movies to get you through Thanksgiving food comas. Feel free to add some in the comments if I've still managed to miss your favorite travel movie. Have a great week, and happy travels! Skeeter

The holidays are just around the corner, so what better time to snuggle up with a blanket and a cup of cocoa and a good movie?! I've put together a list of 10 of my favorite travel movies to inspire your next trip. While this is certainly not a complete list of all the great travel movies out there (there are only 10 after all), this will provide hours of screen time for a truly binge worth winter break. Stock up on popcorn and candy! In no particular order.... 1. Roman Holiday: 1953 A classic romantic comedy that takes you on a tour of Rome. Filled with gelato, vespas, and a sense of adventure. I love this movie! 2. The Secret Life of Walter Mitty: 2013 I was talking to someone once, and they said they hated this movie. They just couldn't relate with the character. At that moment, I realized that they and I would never be true friends. I completely identified with the character of Walter Mitty, and really what normal person doesn't on some level? It's a story about a man who has a nice life, but can't help but daydream and wish he had been braver, more adventurous, and lived life to the fullest. There's beautiful scenery and adventures to experience in this one. If you haven't seen it, give it a try! 3. The Beach: 2000 After this movie came out, people couldn't help but think how great it would be to find a place like is depicted in the movie, minus the crazy cult vibe. It's a gorgeous movie that might just make you think "maybe I should buy and island with a bunch of friends and go off the grid". If you do, let me know! 4. Don't Tempt Me: 2001 This movie is fantastic, and definitely unique. It's about two angels, one from Heaven, where it's black and white, set in France, and very chic; one from Hell, where it's hot, miserable, and they speak English; and earth, where they speak Spanish. It's one I found by chance cruising through netflix a few years ago. It's different and worth a watch! 5. The Way: 2010 This movie was really moving. A father decides to trek the El Camino Santiago trail, where his estranged son died. It really touches on the power of travel. 6. Into the Wild: 2007 This movie is based on the true story of Christopher McCandless who ventured in the Alaskan wilderness alone. His story not only provides lessons on the dangerous power of nature, but on the importance of sharing moments with others. 7. UP: 2009 Adventure is out there! I sobbed like a baby in this movie. Yes, I don't have children and I go to pixar movies...what?! If for some reason, you've managed to go these last five years without seeing this, do yourself a favor and go get it! The beginning of the movie serves as a cautionary tale of putting off your dreams. If you needed a little push to finally travel the world like you've always wanted, this movie will do it. 8. Finding Nemo: 2003 What, another cartoon? Yes! While the movie is about a father finding his son, Nemo. It's also about realizing how amazing the world out there is and how much you miss out on by staying in your comfort zone. 9. Under the Tuscan Sun: 2003 Is this movie a little sappy? Yes. But, it also takes you on a beautiful tour of Italy and reminds us that it's never to late to start over and have a happy ending. Well, damn, here I go getting sappy now too... 10. The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: 2005 If you ask Siri "What is the meaning of life, the universe, and everything" She'll correctly tell you "42". Which you won't understand if you don't watch this movie. It's a feel good goofy comedy about this crazy world we live in and the adventure that is right under our nose.
Did I miss an essential travel movie? Share it in the comments! I'm always on the look out for a good movie. Have a great week, and happy travels! Skeeter So this is turning out to be a fantastic day! I logged into twitter to see that I had been nominated for a Liebster Award?
Wow, that's great, but what is it?! It's a virtual award given to bloggers from other bloggers to recognize them for their work and to help bring attention to emerging bloggers. I was shocked and flattered when I was nominated by Stinky Suitcase (http://stinkysuitcase.com) You should check them out. There are some great posts and beautiful pics to see. Part of the Liebster Award requires the nominees to answer 11 questions, so here ya go! 1. Do you prefer destinations that are hot or cold? I prefer warm destinations. I love the sun on my skin and the sand in my toes. Warm sunny weather always encourages me to go exploring. I love a cold day in snuggling, but for trips, warm weather is where it's at! 2. What is your greatest travel achievement? I'd have to say our trip to New Zealand. It was a huge feat to sell basically everything we owned, and commit to living for nearly a year in a country that we had never been to. I was so happy that we took that big leap and went for it. It was one of the best things ever, and New Zealand will always have a special place in our hearts. 3. Which destination is at the top of your travel bucket list? This is so hard to answer, it's more like, "what's not on the top of your bucket list?" But, if I had to pick one, I'd have to say Spain. I've been wanting to spend some serious time in Spain since I was probably 14. Spain is such a wonderfully diverse country with amazing food and architecture. It would be great to be able to spend a few months (or years) there. 4. Do you pack light or take a full range of kit just in case? I used to pack a ton, but I've become pretty good at getting everything I need in a carry-on. It's so nice to not have to struggle with huge bags or pay additional luggage fees for stuff you end up not using. I'm a big believer that you can plan for most travel situations with a basic set of stuff. We did two weeks in a carry-on for Italy and I'm so glad! Italy would have been tough with a big suitcase. 5. What’s the most unusual souvenir you’ve picked up on your travels? I feel like this shouldn't be hard one...but it is.... oh yeah. When I was 7, my family took a road trip to California. I saw a sign for kittens and insisted that I get one. Which my wonderful dad let me do. I snuggled my new cat, Molly, all the way from California to Illinois. 6. Do you prefer sea or land adventures? I'd say I prefer sea adventures. I don't necessarily have to be ON the water, but I want to be near it, see it, smell it. I love being near the water! 7. What’s the most daring dish you’ve sampled on the road? hmmm. A lot of where we've traveled has pretty tame items food wise. When we were in Italy there was this cone of fried seafood. I would only call it daring because all these little fish still had their eyes...which was a little disconcerting as we see their little faces right before you devour them because they were delicious. 8. When you travel, what do you miss the most about home? Probably a familiar comfy bed to sleep in. There's nothing like climbing into your own bed after a long day of traveling. 9. Who is your favorite travel companion? Pat for sure! He keeps me calm when I'm about to have a freak out. He embraces opportunities for adventure and encourages me to do the same, and he's gotten us out of more than one jam with his Macgyver skills. My dear friend Abby gets an honorable mention because she's a blasty blast to travel with! 10. What/who inspires you to travel most? Growing up, it was probably magazines like National Geographic. I loved seeing pictures of people all over the world. I've always been fascinated with meeting people from different places and exploring new countries. Today, my favorite hobby when I'm not traveling is reading travel themed novels. 11.What are the three most important items you always take with you on your travels? Definitely my camera! I have to have that for sure. My swim suite, because you just never know when you're going to have the chance for a dip! Last but not least, a great travel companion. Some of the best experiences are even better when you share them with a friend. The Liebster Award rules are: 1) Thank the blogger who nominated you, with a link back to his/her blog 2) Answer the 11 questions your nominator asks you 3) Nominate 5–11 bloggers with under 500 Twitter followers 4) Create 11 questions for your nominees 5) Display the Liebster Award logo on your page 6) List these 6 rules in your blog post I nominated @PRRevealed @cmrlefty @ConstanTraveler @adelanteblog It's not 5, but yeah...rules are hard. Their 11 questions are: What has been your least favorite place to visit so far? What has surprised you the most on your travels? Who has been the most intersting person/people you've met? What country/city would you want to live in long term? What's next on your list of travel plans? What inspired you to start blogging about travel? What has been your favorite food that you've tried? Do you prefer big cities or out in the middle of no where? If you had to offer 1 travel tip, what would it be? What is your favorite travel themed book or movie? What's your travel style, fast paced or laid back? Anyways, I'm looking forward to hearing from these great new bloggers! Thanks again to Stinky Suitcase and for all of you guys for stopping by!
