do as the Whitiangians do. If you are fortunate enough to visit the land of the Kiwis it would be helpful to learn some of the local language. So I have decided to post some of what we have learned so far so that you wont have to stare blankfaced at a grocery store cashier when she says something like this:

First I have to appologize for not posting sooner. I have no real reason, it's not as if i've been super busy. Well busy having fun I guess. I've posted some pics of a hike Pat and I went on. We had to ride the ferry here in town to the other side of the bay to get there. The boat just so happened to be named Stella. We hiked up to a place called Shakespear Cliff. The Queen herself has gone there to comemorate Captain Cook's landing here. After that hike we went on a short but slippery walk to a Pa site. A Pa site is a Maori historical site often to with fortifications. The walk there was really pretty and looked like something that hobbits would have built. I'll post pics of the neat staircase we found. We've also gone out and sampled some local seafood. Pat was surprised I ordered steamed mussels, and they were better than I was expecting. We still have to get around to having some meat pies which are very popular here. Today I attended a First Aid training coarse for work. We had to watch the typical workplace video, but this one strangely enough had a cameo by Bill Cosby. Work has been going well. One of the perks of working at a spa is when the massage therapists need to do training I get to be the guinie pig sometimes. I had a coffee and sea kelp body wrap the other day. It sounds strage but it was a lot of fun. In a couple of days Pat and I are hosting a party at our house. We are having some friends of mine from work over for some American style BBQ ribs. it should be fun, you are all invited : ) We hope everyone back home is doing well and thanks for reading!
Skeeter & Pat So Pat and I have been getting pretty comfortable in our beach house. It's been such a luxery to have a warm dry house to live in during the rainy season. This though has lead us to staying indoors more and exploring less. Pat did a little research and found some hikes for us to go on near Whitianga. We went, we saw, and we conquered. I have posted a couple of videos below of Pat being Pat. I've also posted some pics of our hike. Things have been busy at work, but they have started to slow down a bit. And with the weather gradually getting warmer Pat and I are looking forward to doing more things. Some of the items on our list include but are not limited to: caving, black water rafting, exploring glaciers, volcanos, and bungee jumping. This week was pretty fun. We attending the annual Scallop Festival where we saw a man with an epic mullet juggle knives and things on fire. We were sure someone was going to end up a flaming kabob. But luckily everyone was fine. Hopefully I'll have some more videos and pictures of some kiwi adventures! |

Hi there! I'm Skeeter. I grew up moving a lot and that makes me a bit restless for travel and exploration. I started this blog with my husband Pat when we decided to backpack New Zealand for a year. We are always looking for the next adventure and are loving life. We're just your average couple with two sassy dogs and a love for travel. We're sharing our travels and the tips we pick up along the way. LIZHello! I'm Liz. Blogging is very new to me, but I'm so excited to finally write as much as I talk! Archives
