" That's all your house is: a place to keep your stuff. If you didn't have so much stuff you wouldn't need a house. You could just walk around all the time." ~ George Carlin
Well, we are all moved out of our apartment, we've sold or gave away just about everything, We now just have a small pile of boxes and bags with what we have left, and it's great! It makes everything so much easier. I've been talking to a bunch of people lately about our trip, and often they say something like "geez, I couldn't imagine getting rid of all my stuff." But when you think about it, would you rather have the couch you are sitting on or, a once in a lifetime experience. Most everything that anyone has can be replaced. We only live one life and it would be such a waste to not do something becaue you don't know what to do with your tv. Think about the top 10 things that you want to accomplish in your life...are most of them experiences or are most of them possessions? If most of them are experiences (as I might guess) then George Carlin and hopefully this website will help you on your way to crafting your own adventure where you can start checking things off that top 10 list. Life is a series of hellos and goodbyes...I'm afraid it's time for goodbye again.~Billy Joel4/16/2010 Today was a good day for several reasons: It's Friday, my wonderful co-workers threw a goodbye party for me, It's Pat's last day of work, and we are one day closer to leaving for New Zealand. But it is hard to ready yourself to say goodbye to everyone. There are new people in our lives that we have become close with, there are family members, and there are old friends, and its hard to say goodblye to all of them. It's a little harder because we don't know when/if we are coming back. More than likely we will come back sometime, but whether that is to viist or to live is hard to say, and that uncertainty makes fairwells difficult. We are going to Pocatello tomorrow for a friends wedding and a lot of our other friends will be there and its going to be great to see all of them one last time before we leave. On the other hand though, there will also soon be hellos in our future. We will meet new and interesting people, make new friends, and that is part of what life is all about. As you can imagine we are really excited to get out there and get started. This week has been really productive as far as selling our stuff goes. We still have a few items left but that will leave us some stuff for the yard sale we are planning next weekend. Only two more weeks left in our apartment!
You say hello, I say goodbye! Skeeter We are now in the stages of getting everything in order for our trip. Pat and I both gave our 2 weeks notice at work, (which was an awesome experience for both of us). We have slowly but surely been selling things, and this weekend I'm going to get some packing/ taking stuff for donation done. Hopefully I'll sell a few items as well this weekend. Right now the selling of things is more so we don't take up a ton of room at our parents' house rather then for money for the trip, although every little bit will help. Our apartment complex is hosting a yard sale on April 24th, which is perfect because that is the last weekend we will be here. Hopefully we wil be able to sell any last remaining items there. It's been a little weird calling up all of our utilities to schedule to have them turned off when we move. I called one and explained that we were canceling our service because we are moving, and the lady on the other side asked "where?" and I replied " New Zealand". She was instantly excited for us, and wishing us the best of luck, and saying how jealouse she was of us. I was surprised how excited a stranger could be for our little adventure, it was really encouraging. But at the same time, I have been struck by how many people say "Oh, I'd love to do something like that, but I just don't think I ever could". That kind of makes me sad, I hope that more people out there realize that although it may be a huge adjustment and take a lot of work, but they should never give up hope of doing something that they would love. Pat and I have had to work hard to save up enough and get things in order, but it hasn't by any means been so hard that anyone else woudn't be able to do it, or that if we had it to do again that we would decide that it was too much sacrafice. So, here's to finding a place in our lives for the things that we love, and the things that we dream of. Cheers!
