Seek Adventure Travel Happy
Please excuse my cheesy song reference. So, Pat and I embarked on our very first cruise this May to celebrate our 4th anniversary. And let me tell you, it was fun! We were a little worried because of all the news reports about cruises going terrible wrong, but we figured we're good swimmers ha! Our cruise left from Miami, docked in Key West and Cozumel and returned to Miami. We were pleasantly surprised to find our room was larger than expected. Now don't get any crazy ideas, it wasn't huge, but definitely large enough for the two of us. The service was great! Chocolates on our pillows every night and drink service in the pool kind of great. The only bummer was not getting to spend more time at port. Key West seemed really cool and we would've like to spend more time there. Cozumel was also really pretty, but the police everywhere with machine guns and guys in look out towers in the jungle were a little creepy. The beach in Cozumel was so beautiful though. And there were lots of sea turtles right off the beach to swim with = awesome! As for the cruise, there was tons to do...don't try to do it all...it's impossible. It wasn't as crowded as I thought it would be which was nice. Although the college kids with their hip hop dance parties did seem to have a lock down on the main pool area. Here I am 28, seeming like a grumpy old curmudgeon, but seriously, lets all share the pool huh? So, Pat and I hung out lots on the "Serenity Deck" which was actually pretty serene with two hot tubs and peace and quite and awesome views. We also took advantage of there not being that many kids on the cruise and used the waterslides, which were lots of fun! We cruised with Carnival, and like other cruise lines I suspect, made everything really easy. In a hot tub with no money and wanna buy a drink? Just give them your room number, (which is how you buy everything that's not included) Which most things are included. All your meals and drinks other than alcohol and soda. Worried about sea sickness? I wouldn't worry too much. Pat tends to get seasick, but he was fine for the cruise. He took Bonine which he read is supposed to be better than Dramamine. You could occasionally feel the boat rock from side to side, but I mostly liked that, and most of the time didn't even notice. There was a lot we were unsure about before we went on our cruise, so if you have questions, shoot them our way!

The 4h of July in D.C is amazing is so many ways! There are so many things going on, so. many. people. and sweltering temperatures! July in most places is hot, but it is SO hot and humid in DC in July. We had underestimated this fact when we went. We stayed with awesome family that drove us around and saved us from a bunch of hassle and heat stroke. If you are visiting and aren't as fortunate as us to have people driving you around. Pack plenty of water with you! Duck into museums (even if they aren't on your itinerary) for a little AC and a break. Make restaurant reservations in advance. We were starving for lunch and melting in the sun one day, and had to walk several blocks past many many restaurants before we found one with a table available. That said, it was a really fun trip. Filled with lots of amazing museums and good times. It was especially nice to spend time with family that we don't get to see often. This post is way over due! I'll be posting some more pictures on the photo gallery page. Some tips: use the metro, so cheap and easy! Pack water, and don't be shy about dunking your feet in some fountains...a girls gotta do what a girls gotta do! Don't try and over do it, the heat and the crowds are a lot, don't spoil the fun with exhaustion. If you can duck away to the Kennedy Center for a performance, I highly recommend it. It was the highlight of the trip for me! |
